Livin’ the [Maskcara] Dream

How can I even put into a post how amazing Dream was? I don’t know how, but I’m certainly going to try.
On August 9th, I packed my suitcase and jumped on a plane to Salt Lake City for Maskcara’s annual artist conference. Saying I was excited is an extreme understatement. I hadn’t seen my best friends in a whole year and was chomping at the bits to get my arms around them again. I boarded the plane and a few layovers  and many hours later,  landed in Salt Lake. My closest Maskcara girlfriends and I got an Airbnb for the weekend to ensure that not a second of our time would be waisted apart. When I say this was the ultimate girls weekend, I mean it.

Our first morning consisted of the opening ceremony, new product launches & announcements, and some classes. Y’all, these classes were absolutely inspiring. The first, taught by Alison Faulkner, was all about finding the awesome that is within you. This was possibly the best class I’ve ever attended. She made me feel strong, she made me feel empowered, and (for the first time in a long time) she made me truly believe in myself! If you’ve never heard Alison speak, stop what you’re doing and download her podcast Awesome with Alison right now. Not only is she so fun and the life of the party, she is an amazing speaker with a great story to tell.

Being awesome means feeling confident and excited about the choices you’re making, the life you’re living and the lives your touching. -Alison Faulkner

After lunch we attended various break out sessions to help better our business. I learned so much in these classes but my favorite quote of the whole day was from Natalie Jenson who said,

I think all to often, we beat ourselves up about what shoula/woulda/coulda happened. I know I do. Recently, I think I’ve forgotten how to have fun in life. I’ve been so wrapped up with being a wife, a mom, a homemaker, a business owner, etc that I’ve forgotten how to let loose and just have some fun. I’m so concentrated on making everything perfect in all those aspects that sometimes I forget to slow down and have those sweet moments with my kids. This class was such a good reminder to just let go and just let let God. What is for me WILL NOT pass me by.

The first day ended with a gala complete with fancy dresses, yummy dinner, recognitions and awards. It was such a beautiful night and one that I don’t think any of us will forget. My dream dress was from Vici and it couldn’t have been more perfect for me.

The second day was just as inspiring as the first. We heard from more amazing women all in all walks of life. Not only were their classes specific to our businesses like photography tips, product knowledge, and hosting parties but more importantly more classes on bettering ourselves. How to be the best versions of ourselves. Y’all, I so desperately needed these classes. I needed this time to work on myself, to better myself, to fill my cup, even if it was just for a few days. My cup was not only filled throughout the weekend, but was overflowing. Overflowing with knowledge, self confidence, love, friendship and so much more.

Our final speaker was from our D.A.D or director of artist development, Bre Lasley. If you don’t know who Bre is, I strongly encourage you to look her up. She is one of the strongest women I’ve ever met and she spoke on labels. Labels we give ourselves and those labels given to us by others.

Bre’s speech was so powerful. She kept saying how much the world needed each of us.

The world needs you despite your labels, good or bad. And just because their bad doesn’t mean they’re weak. Those bad links can become some of your strongest if you’ll just let them. The choice is yours. I know I’ve said this about a thousand times throughout this post, but man did I need this weekend.

We finished out our time together with the dance party of the year. It was red carpet themed and we were encouraged to dress up as our favorite celebrity. I dressed as Selena Quintanilla and, y’all, I’m not going to lie…I looked good. HA.

We had to best time dancing, laughing, and just being together for one final time.

The next morning was sad as most packed up and left early. Those of us that had later flights met for brunch. This weekend was the first time some of us had formally met, but we’ve been online besties for so long you’d never had known it. Our time together was so sweet and we’re all already anxiously waiting to reunite again next year.

The friendships I’ve formed by partnering with Maskcara Beauty has been absolutely life changing. I’ve never been the one to have a ton of girlfriends and now I have more than I can count. These women genuinely care for me. We can laugh together, cry together, learn together, and love together. I am forever grateful to Cara for creating the artist program and bringing so many beautiful souls into my life,
